Wrigleyville Real Estate

Home of Wrigley Field, and the Chicago Cubs baseball team, Wrigleyville is a part of the Lake View neighborhood. It is bounded by Hasted, Ashland, Roscoe and Byron, and lies directly north of the DePaul/Lincoln Park West area of Chicago. It features proximity to Lake Michigan, a lively social scene and plentiful stores, including antique shops, florists, furniture stores, and coffeehouses.

The 2000 population of Lakeview was 94,817 residents, making it the second largest of the Chicago community areas, following Austin, which has 117,527 residents. For entertainment, Wrigleyville residents have plenty of options from which to choose. There are numerous pubs and bars surrounding Wrigley Field, as well as a variety of eateries whose offerings range from Chicago-style hotdogs to upscale full-service restaurants. There are also a number of spots to view live music, dance and theater.

In terms of shopping, there are more than 600 retail stores that line the streets of Lakeview, and Diversey, Clark, Halsted and Broadway boast strong commercial development. For a good time, Wrigleyville residents can spend an evening at the Balliwick Repertory Theater on Belmont, buy a few beers at the Town Hall Pub on North Halsted, or at Bungalow Bar and Lounge on Belmont, and eat some vegetarian fare at the Chicago Diner, on North Halsted Street. Further west and adjacent to Wrigley Field are Sluggers, Hi-Tops, Cubby Bear, and Barleycorn- popular Wrigleyville bars that appeal to sports fans.

Some single-family homes exist in the Wrigleyville/Lakeview neighborhood, but most of the housing is a mix of new and older buildings that were designed for apartment and condominium housing. There are also beautifully rehabbed Victorian greystones, and some two and three-flat buildings. Just west of Wrigley Field is an historic street, Alta Vista Terrace, which contains beautiful row houses that are similar to those found in an old English town.

Though prices are escalating, the cost of residential housing in the Wrigleyville/Lakeview neighborhood still tends to be lower than housing in the Lincoln Park and DePaul neighborhoods. The median price of a condominium in the Wrigleyville neighborhood in 2004 was $363,073. In August, 2004, an eight-bedroom, three-bed single-family residence in the same neighborhood was listed for $1,385,000.
