Wheeling Real Estate

The history of the Wheeling, located in Cook County, dates back centuries to when the Potawatomi tribe settled along what is now known as the Des Plains River. Today, the village of Wheeling has approximately 37,000 residents.

According to the town's official website, Wheeling's beginnings came as an overnight stop for travelers from Chicago who were headed to the Wisconsin Territory via the overland trail now known as Milwaukee Avenue (Illinois Route 21). The string of inns, taverns and eateries established in the 1830's was the start of what is now Wheeling's renowned Restaurant Row. Wheeling emerged as a center for industry and commerce in the 1960's.

I-294 is the eastern boundary of the Wheeling with nearby interchanges at Lake-Cook and Palatine Roads. I-294 allows easy access to O'Hare International Airport (7 miles), Chicago's Loop (35 minutes). Commuter Rail transportation is available to Wheeling residents via the Metra North Central Line boarded at the Wheeling Metra Station. Wheeling to Chicago's Union Station on Metra's North Central Line is a 45-minute commute. Public transportation within the Village and to nearby communities in northern Cook and southern Lake County is provided by Pace bus lines.

There are a variety of housing choices available in Wheeling. There are affordable single family homes along Wheeling's older tree lined neighborhoods. There are also executive style homes, and well-maintained condominium developments in the Village.

Educational needs of elementary and middle school age children are served by the schools of the Community Consolidated School District 21 and Prospect Heights School District 23. Wheeling’s secondary education students attend Township High School District 214's Wheeling and Buffalo Grove High Schools. Graduation rates are approximately 89 percent at these high schools. Advanced education opportunities are also available at National Louis University, and William Rainey Harper Community College along with Worsham College of Mortuary Science.
