Wadsworth Neighborhood Real Estate

A small town (population 3,083) that's located approximately 40 miles north of downtown Chicago, the Lake County village of Wadsworth is known for its rural surroundings, rolling terrain and upscale single-family homes. Named after Milwaukee Road investor, Elisha Wadworth, it is situated near the Illinois/Wisconsin border; nearby suburbs include Zion, Gurnee, Waukegan, Winthrop Harbor, Lake Villa, Grayslake, North Chicago, and Antioch. Wadsworth covers 8.77 square miles.

The majority of single-family homes are situated on at least one acre of land; townhomes and apartment rental units are scarce. In August, 2006, a two-bedroom, one-bath single-family home was listed for $157,000; a three-bedroom, 2.2-bath residence was selling for $389,000; a four-bedroom, three-bath single-family home was selling for $440,000; and a six-bedroom, five-bath single-family home was listed for $750,000.

For recreation, Wadsworth residents can take advantage of the many area trails that are available for walking, biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. There's also a canoe launch located east of U.S. Route 41 on Wadsworth Road where canoeists can spend some leisure time. The village of Wadsworth has a community park with a ball field, tennis and basketball courts, playground equipment, an ice skating pond, a ¾ mile jogging trail, and a sledding hill. And thrill seekers can spend the day with their families at Great America amusement park in Gurnee.

There are four elementary school districts and two high school districts that serve the students of Wadsworth. Most of Wadsworth falls within Gurnee Elementary District #56, which has an enrollment of 1,772 students, and Warren Township High School District #121, which has an enrollment of 2,603 students. There is one parochial school in Wadsworth.

For shopping, villagers can head on out to Wadsworth's downtown area, which has been designated an historic district. For more shopping, residents can utilize the Gurnee Mills Outlet Mall that's close by.

Commuters can board a Metra train in Waukegan; a trip into downtown Chicago takes an hour. Major highways connect Wadsworth to Gurnee and to many lakeshore communities. The city of Milwaukee is an hour's drive away.
