Villa Park Neighborhood Real Estate

Nicknamed "The Garden Village" because of its many gardens and parks, the DuPage County village of Villa Park lies 18 miles west of downtown Chicago, and sits adjacent to the towns of Addison, Elmhurst and Lombard. Covering an area of six square mile, its population is 29,180 (2000). It was the former home of the Ovaltine factory where the chocolate drink mix was manufactured. The plant closed in 1986; over 300 luxury apartments were developed on the site.

A town with a "small town" atmosphere, Villa Park has excellent schools, a wide range of housing choices, outstanding police and fire protection services, state-of-the-art paramedic service, convenient shopping, and exceptional recreational facilities. Transportation is excellent and there are a number of service clubs to which residents can belong. Villa Park received the coveted Governor's Hometown Honorable Mention award for its three-year volunteer campaign to install ornamental memorial lighting on the Villa Park Prairie Path.

Most of Villa Park's residents live in single-family homes, although some condominiums, townhomes and apartments are also available. More than 70 pre-fabricated single-family homes, which were sold by the Sears catalog until 1937, can still be found within the community. In August, 2006, a two-bedroom, one-bath single-family home was listed at $244,900; a three-bedroom, two-bath single-family home was listed for $314,900; and a Prairie-style, five-bedroom, three-bath single-family residence was selling for $639,900.

In their spare time, residents can take advantage of the hundreds of programs and activities offered by the Villa Park Parks and Recreation Department; facilities include 100 acres of parks, two community centers, two swimming pools, numerous tennis courts, two sledding hills, several fishing lagoons, and the Sugar Creek Golf Course, a nine-hole, par 32 public golf course, which is also owned and operated by the Elmhurst Park District. Villagers can also visit the Illinois Prairie Path to hike, bike and ride horses; purchase some fresh flowers and produce at the Villa Park French Market; and participate in the town's annual garden walk, which is sponsored by the Men's Garden Club of Villa Park.

The Eisenhower Expressway is two miles away; the Tri-State Tollway and the East-West Tollway are close by. To travel into downtown Chicago, commuters can board a train at the Villa Park station; the trip takes around 30 minutes.
