Shorewood Real Estate

Homeseekers who enjoy a quiet lifestyle will be attracted to Shorewood, a serene village of 10,000 residents that's located in Will County along the DuPage River. Situated just west of Joliet and close to Plainfield, Minooka and Frankfort, Shorewood features excellent schools, low crime and easy commute times to major commercial and industrial centers. The town is located close to the intersection of Interstate 55 and Interstate 80, and is 40 miles away from downtown Chicago.

Housing includes older homes in established neighborhoods as well as spacious, newly-built custom residences; available are single-family homes, condominiums, townhouses and land lots. In August, 2006, a three-bedroom, two- bath home was listed for $312,900, a three-bedroom, 2.1 bath home was selling for $429,900 and a four-bedroom, three-bath home was listed for $719,900.

Shorewood has a "Newcomers and Friends" organization- a women's organization that promotes new friendships and social activities. The group holds monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of every month, and hosts a variety of events such as Movie Night, a weekly breakfast and/or lunch, couples night out, crafts night and much more.

Recreational activities are plentiful in Shorewood. The 305-acre Hammel Woods is located along the DuPage River and offers hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, biking, and picnicking. The new 55-acre Four Seasons Park has soccer and baseball fields and volleyball, basketball and tennis courts, and Shorewood's Parks and Recreation Department offers classes and organized sports for persons of all ages. There are also a number of neighborhood "tot lots," and the DuPage River Bike Trail is another option for recreation enthusiasts.

Education is a key priority in Shorewood. Students can attend a number of public and private schools in the area, and they continually receive high rankings on standardized tests. In addition, the graduation rate of high school seniors is a very impressive 96 percent. There are various universities, community colleges, and trade and technical schools in several nearby communities.
