Romeoville Real Estate

Once known as Romeo, the twin city of Juliet (which is now known as the Illinois city of Joliet), the village of Romeoville is located on the west bank of the Des Plaines River and is an historic part of the Illinois and Michigan Canal System. It was once a bustling resort town for wealthy Chicagoans, and now has one of the most diverse industrial tax bases of any community in Illinois. It is located in Will County, 32 miles southwest of Chicago's Loop, and covers 14.5 square miles. From 1995 to 2005, the population of Romeoville increased by 17,000; it currently stands at more than 36,000.

More than a dozen subdivisions have been constructed in Romeoville in recent years. These include various single-family and townhome developments. Housing prices are reasonable: In August, 2006, a three-bedroom, 2.1-bath single-family home was selling for $145,900.

The Stevenson Expressway is conveniently located at the northern edge of Romeoville; residents also have easy access to the North-South Tollway, the Tri-State Tollway and Interstate 80. A Metra train ride from neighboring Lemont into downtown Chicago takes about an hour.

In their leisure time, villagers can visit a water park that features a pool, diving boards and a slide. They can also patronize Isle a la Cache Museum that's located on an island in the Des Plaines River on Romeo Road. The popular destination features a museum, picnic spot, outdoor amphitheater, hiking trails, and canoeing areas, and has been completed renovated in 2006 to include a new layout and new exhibits.

For fun, residents can also participate in a number of village-wide activities. They can join in on the festivities at the annual RomeoFest- a five-day extravaganza of food and entertainment; participate in Halloween Fest, which features a children's costume contest, hayrides and a petting zoo; attend the annual Downtown Afternoon Cruise Car Show, showcasing classic, custom and antique cars; and go to the village Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
