Rogers Park Real Estate

Located 1.9 miles north of downtown Chicago, the community of Rogers Park (frequently referred to as East Rogers Park), borders the village of Evanston, and is bounded by Howard Street and Juneway Terrace, Ridge and Devon Avenues and Lake Michigan. It is located between Loyola and Northwestern Universities, attracting many students to the area. Metra trains and CTA trains and buses provide excellent access to the downtown area and to Chicago's northern suburbs. It is the only Chicago community with direct access to Lake Michigan; in fact many of the buildings have been constructed right next to the beach and offer beautiful views. The population of Rogers Park is 63,484 (2000).

Rogers Park is well-known for its multi-ethnic population; in fact, the 2000 U.S. Census showed the community to be one of the most diverse communities in the country, with a solid mix of ethnic backgrounds, languages, ages, and incomes. It also contains many houses of prayer representing different religions and denominations.

Rogers Park also contains various types of housing. Off of Sheridan Road, large courtyard buildings dominate; residents are attracted by the proximity to Lake Michigan and eight beaches, which offer many recreational activities such as boating, swimming, fishing, and walking along the shoreline.

The community also boasts numerous small parks along the lake. Most buildings in the area are either low-rise or two-and-three-flats. There are also some large Victorians and bungalows, as well as converted condominiums and multi-unit buildings. Housing is affordable, but on the rise. In August, 2006, a two-bedroom, one-bath condominium on West Sherwin Avenue was listed for $359,900; a four-bedroom, 3.1-bath single-family home on West Pratt Avenue was selling for $799,000.

There are a number of excellent schools in the area. Primary schools include Field Elementary School, Joyce Kilmer School, North Shore School, and Stephen F. Gale School. Older students attend Sullivan High School on North Bosworth Avenue. There are also a number of parochial schools in the area.
