Plano Real Estate

Settled by the Quakers in the 1830s, the small town of Plano, is located in Kendall County, north of Sandwich and Yorkville, and west of Bolingbrook, Naperville and Aurora. It covers an area of 3.5 square miles, and has a population of 7,338 (2005).

There are many cultural events in the area from which to choose. Residents can visit the Paramount Arts Center in Aurora, the Rialto Theatre in Joliet, and the Sandwich Opera House, and also take advantage of the numerous cultural offerings at Waubonsee Community College, Aurora University and Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

For recreation, villagers can take some classes at the Plano Recreation Center or at the local YMCA, and hit some golf balls at the Cedarell Golf Club or at the Deer Valley Golf Course. Locally-sponsored baseball, softball and tackle football leagues offer further enjoyment for many girls and boys living in the area.

A number of area parks offer opportunities for relaxation. Silver Springs State Park, located five miles west of Yorkville in Kendall County, features 30 acres of prairie. Plano City Park, located on East Main Street, adjacent to Big Rock Creek, is Plano's largest and most heavily used park. It contains a lighted softball field, playground equipment, a picnic area and other amenities. Lathrop Park in the center of Plano, contains two playgrounds and a gazebo. Foli Park provides residents with a three-acre fishing pond, and Memorial Park, located on the corner of Center Street and Route 34, was built by the Boy Scouts of America.

Housing comes in all price ranges, and costs far less than comparable homes located in suburbs closer to downtown Chicago. In August, 2006, a two-bedroom, one-bath single-family home was listed for $167,000, while a four-bedroom, two-bath single-family residence was selling for $575,000.

Plano students attend three elementary schools (944 students), one junior high (275 students) and one high school (368 students). For higher education, students can attend Waubonsee Community College, Aurora University and Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
