Located in the beautiful Fox River Valley in Kane County, the town of North Aurora sits 40 miles west of downtown Chicago between Batavia on the north and Aurora on the south. Though often looked upon as an appendage to the village of Aurora, North Aurora has its own separate personality and distinct characteristics.
North Aurora covers seven square miles and its population is approximately 13,764. It features easy access to I-88, Route 31, Route 25 and Route 56 (Butterfield Road). To reach downtown Chicago, commuters can board a train in nearby Geneva and arrive downtown in about 67 minutes. Pace bus service is also available, and O'Hare International Airport is 45 minutes away.
North Aurora has a vibrant downtown shopping district. In addition, villagers can visit Aurora's Fox Valley Center, St. Charles' Charlestowne Mall and the Randall Road retail shopping corridor to do their shopping.
In terms of new home construction, North Aurora has been averaging 300 new homes a year. There are also a number of older estates in the village, as well as townhomes and a few apartment complexes. The median value of a single-family home is $220,400.
For recreation, villagers can take advantage of the scenic Fox River and all it has to offer. Parklands and fishing are available, as are bike paths, which enable recreation enthusiasts to cycle all the way to DuPage or Lake Counties. The Fox Valley Park District offers a wide array of programs and activities including its popular summertime concerts. The Park District also operates the Red Oak Nature Center, which is surrounded by forty acres of woods where visitors can explore several nature trails or picnic in designated areas. Golf is another favorite leisure-time activity. North Aurora boasts several beautiful and challenging golf courses, and at AMF Valley Lanes, villagers can do some "glow-in-the-dark" late night bowling on Friday and Saturday nights.
