New Lenox is situated east of Joliet and west of Frankfort and Mokena. Many new subdivisions have sprung up in New Lenox in recent years, including Walker County Estates, on the village's north side. Numerous older homes- ranches, tri-levels and custom-built residences- are also located within the community. Though newer single-family homes cost more than older homes, residential real estate in New Lenox is still moderately-priced compared to homes located closer to Chicago. In August, 2006, a two-bedroom, two-bath single-family home was priced at $199,000; a three-bedroom, two-bath single-family residence was listed for $285,000; and a four-bedroom, 2.1-bath single-family home was selling for $429,900.
New Lenox is conveniently located close to I-80, I-55 and I-57, which lead to Chicago. By boarding a Metra train, commuters can reach downtown Chicago in about an hour. The New Lenox Airport is equipped with a 2,850-foot paved runway that serves private aircraft. Midway Airport is located 20 miles northeast of New Lenox; O'Hare International Airport is 45 miles north of the village.
Top-notch grade schools and an outstanding high school draw newcomers to the village. For students wishing to continue their education, several colleges are nearby, including Joliet Junior College.
The New Lenox Park District maintains more than 26 park sites encompassing more than 450 acres. Activities include a wide array of sports and exercise programs, as well as camps and bus trips. The Park District owns the Sanctuary Golf Course, an 18-hole championship course with a driving range, learning center, pro shop, and restaurant. Open to the public, this course provides challenges to all levels of golfers.
