Mundelein Real Estate

Named by Money Magazine in 2005 as one of the best places in the country to retire, Mundelein is a town with a peaceful, country-like atmosphere, good schools and excellent recreational facilities. It is located along beautiful Diamond Lake, 38 miles northwest of downtown Chicago in central Lake County. The population of Mundelein is 30,935 (2000). More than 800 employers are located in Mundelein.

Mundelein is well-known for its numerous golf courses. It has seven public courses located within or adjacent to its boundaries. These include Steeple Chase Golf Course, which is operated by the Mundelein Park District; Village Green Golf Course, which is privately-owned; Pine Meadow Golf Course, which is also privately-owned; Countryside Golf Course East and West, which is operated by the Lake County Forest Preserve; and Indian Creek Golf Course, which is privately-owned. The 36-hole Ivanhoe Country Club is a private course that's located adjacent to Mundelein.

Other recreational activities and facilities that villagers can take advantage of include boating, fishing, ice skating, and swimming on Diamond Lake; indoor and outdoor swimming pools; over 20 neighborhood parks; and a Mundelein Park District community center that contains a fitness center. Villagers can visit the town's northern section, which is comprised of a number of family-owned businesses; the southern part of town also offers shopping opportunities. The Tri-State Tollway is nearby. Commuters can board a Metra train in town to travel into downtown Chicago. The ride takes one hour.

In terms of its housing choices, the majority of homes are single-family housing and includes ranch-style homes, tri-levels and colonials. Townhomes, condominiums and apartments can also be found. There is a full range of housing styles and prices, from starter homes to single-family residences priced at over $1 million dollars. In August, 2006, a three-bedroom, one-bath single-family home was priced at $330,000; a four-bedroom, two-bath single-family residence was selling for $539,900; and a four-bedroom, three-bath single-family home was listed at $729,000.
