Located in Grundy County alongside the Illinois River and the historic Illinois and Michigan Canal, the village of Morris lies 23 miles southwest of Joliet and 59 miles southwest of Chicago. O'Hare International Airport is 60 miles away; Midway Airport is 52 miles from Morris. The town boasts a municipal airport (the Morris Municipal Airport), the Grundy County Speedway, three state parks, and a charming downtown shopping area that's filled with a unique mix of specialty stores and antique shops. The population of Morris is 12,939 (2005), and it covers an area of 6.9 square miles. Nearby towns include Minooka, Lisbon, Sandwich, and Coal City.

Morris is home to the Dresden nuclear power plant, which provides a majority of the electricity to the Chicago area. It serves as the county seat of Grundy County, which boasts some of the most beautiful parks in the state and where recreation enthusiasts can hike along the many trails, prairies and scenic river banks, or go boating, camping, canoeing, bird watching, or picnicking. Grundy County also hosts the popular Grundy County Corn Festival, which brings thousands of people into the area each year.

In terms of education Morris has three elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, and one vocational school. Morris Community High School on Union Street has an enrollment of 924 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17/4.

Housing in Morris sells at various prices. In August, 2006, a three-bedroom, 2/1-bath townhome was selling for $167,900; a four-bedroom, two-bath single-family home was listed at $399,500; and a 3,600-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-bath single-family residence was selling for $750,000.

In their spare time, villagers can do some shopping at the many one-of-a-kind shops that fill the downtown area. They can also attend the town's summertime "Concerts on the Courthouse Lawn," play some golf at the public Nettle Creek Country Club or at the members-only Morris Country Club, spend a Friday night at the Grundy County Speedway, take some books out from the public library, or go boating at the public boat launch located at the William G. Stratton State Park.
