Midlothian Real Estate

The Cook County suburb of Midlothian boasts easy access to major roads, excellent recreational opportunities, a small-town atmosphere, and a mixture of housing styles. It is located 18 miles south of downtown Chicago, and is bordered by Crestwood and Robbins to the north, Posen to the east, Markham to the south, and Oak Forest to the west. It has a population of 25,663 (2006).

Midlothian is close to the Tri-State Tollway (294), Interstate 57 and Interstate 80. Metra express trains in Midlothian and Blue Island bring commuters into downtown Chicago in about 40 minutes.

Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of the Midlothian Park District's numerous recreational opportunities including a swimming pool, tennis and volleyball courts, a gymnasium, an outdoor skating rink, and sledding hills. The Park District also sponsors horseback riding, sports league play and summer camps, and owns and operates seven parks. Residents can also play some golf at the Midlothian Country Club on 147th Street, a private club founded in 1898 by Chicago businessmen looking for a summer retreat for their families.

For shopping, villagers can visit Midlothian Plaza at 144th and Pulaski, and Corsi Plaza, Eagle Plaza and Mid Oak Plaza, all on 147th Street. Just a few minutes away from Midlothian are Orland Park Square Shopping Center, River Crest Center and Chicago Ridge Mall.

Midlothian offers a mixture of older homes and newer construction. Housing styles include Chicago-style bungalows, Cape Cods, ranches and split-levels. In July, 2006, a three-bedroom, 2.1 bath single-family home was listed for $259,900, while a five-bedroom, 3.1 bath single-family home was selling for $699,900.

Midlothian School District #143 serves approximately 1,766 students at four building sites. Midlothian students can also attend St. Christopher Catholic School, which has been in the community for over 65 years. High school students attend either Bremen High School or Oak Forest High School.
