Matteson Real Estate

The Cook County village of Matteson covers 10 square miles and is located 26 miles south of downtown Chicago. It is located along the Metra Electric commuter rail line, and 25 miles south of Midway Airport. A number of major roadways lie within 10 miles of Matteson including I-57, I-80, I-294 (Tri-state), Cicero Avenue, Lincoln Highway, Harlem Avenue, and I-94. According to 2005 statistics, the population of Matteson is 15,675.

In recent years, Matteson has experienced a dramatic housing boom. In addition to the existing housing stock of Victorians, tri-levels and Cape Cod-style homes, many new subdivisions have been constructed. Single-family homes have been built near the commuter train stop, and two-story, ranch and split-level residences have been constructed elsewhere in town. The sale price for an existing home averages $192,000; the average sale price for a new home is $296,000 (2005).

One new subdivision is The Point at Gleneagle Trail on West Lincoln Highway. Built by Montalbano Homes, the housing development consists of 236 single-family homes and 170 townhouses ranging in size from 1,771 to 2,978 square feet. Prices run from $228,900 to $285,900.

In their free time, residents can head on over to Matteson's Lincoln Mall Shopping Center, which features 125 retail stores and eating spots. They can also visit the village's Venture Plaza, Matteson Plaza and Marketplace Plaza shopping areas. Villagers can take out some books at the village's public library, attend some free concerts in Oakwood Park every summer, and attend the long-running Matteson Festival, held each summer and featuring various musical acts. They can also play a round of golf at any number of golf courses in the area.

The Matteson Parks and Recreation Department also offers a variety of leisure-time activities for everyone from pre-schoolers through senior citizens. Residents and their families can enroll in a variety of craft and fine arts programs, sign up for summer camp and softball leagues, take a dog obedience class, or sign up for ballet, salsa and tumbling classes.
