Lombard District Real Estate

A town that's known for an abundance of lilacs and its annual Lilac Festival each May, the village of Lombard is located twenty-one miles west of downtown Chicago in DuPage County. It is bounded by Route 53 to the west, Westmore/Meyers Road to the East, Butterfield Road to the South, and North Avenue to the north. The Tri-State (294) Tollway is located four miles away, and the North-South Tollway is situated on the town's western edge. O'Hare International Airport is a 30-minute drive away. Lombard has a population of 42,816 (2005).

During lilac time each year, Lilacia Park in downtown Lombard is filled with flowering lilac bushes, thousands of tulips and other beautiful flowers. The Lilac Parade, complete with a lilac queen, attracts more than 55,000 spectators who cheer on the various bands, floats and business and civic participants of the ever-popular event. Other well-attended village activities include the Taste of Lombard, featuring a variety of cuisines, and a spectacular fireworks extravaganza over the July 4 holiday. Wintertime events include the lighting of a holiday tree in downtown Lombard, a holiday light festival at Lilacia Park and a Victorian holiday celebration.

For shopping, residents can visit downtown Lombard or head on over to Yorktown Shopping Center located at the northeast corner of Highland Avenue and Butterfield Road. The expansive shopping mecca features a number of large anchor stores, smaller specialty shops, a food court and a movie theater.

In their leisure time, villagers can also drive to the 18-screen movie complex in town or participate in a number of activities offered by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County such as hiking, boating, camping, cross-country skiing, and fishing.

Lombard students attend an assortment of public and private primary and middle schools in Lombard and in neighboring Glen Ellyn. High school students can attend one of two high schools: Glenbard East High School in Lombard or Willowbrook High School in Villa Park.

Lombard's housing stock runs the gamut from affordable to upscale, and includes single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums, and apartments. In July, 2006, a three-bedroom, two-bath single-family home was listed for $243,800, while a four-bedroom, 2.1-bath single-family home was selling for $759,000.
