Lincolnshire Neighborhood Real Estate

An ethnically diverse Cook County suburb that's located 10 miles north of downtown Chicago, Lincolnshire covers two and one-half square miles, and has a population of 12,359 (2000). It features 13 parks, an excellent school system and a variety of shopping opportunities.

Much of Lincolnwood's housing dates back to the 1950s and 60s; housing styles include split-level, Cape Cod, Georgian, and ranch-style homes in the middle of town, and more expensive custom-built residences in the Lincolnwood Towers neighborhood. Townhouses and condominiums are also available. The average price of a single-family home is $291,400 (2000).

In terms of leisure-time activities, residents can take advantage of a wide variety of programs for persons of all ages. At the village's thirteen parks, they can swim, play tennis, ice skate, and play softball. They can also take part in the well-attended annual "Turkey Trot"- a 5K-10K run, held on the third Sunday of November; and have some fun at the membership-only Proesel Park Family Aquatic Center, located one block west of Lincoln Avenue on Kostner. Residents can also play some miniature golf at Novelty Golf on Devon Avenue, and visit the Lincolnwood Public Library, located on the corner of Pratt and Lincoln Avenues.

For shopping, residents can visit the many stores located on Lincoln Avenue or head on over to the indoor Lincolnwood Town Center on Touhy Avenue and McCormick Boulevard. There, they can shop at a variety of anchor stores including Carson Pirie Scott, Old Navy, and Kohl's, as well as a number of smaller shops.

Children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade attend one of three schools in School District #74. Niles Township #219 serves over 4,800 high school students who attend Niles North and Niles West high schools. The high schools' graduation rate is 93.7 percent, and for the 2004-2005 school year, there were seven National Merit finalists.
