Chicago Lakeview community Real Estate

Chicago's Lakeview community is one of the city's most livable and bustling neighborhoods. It is located off of Lake Michigan's shores, enabling residents to partake in a variety of recreational activities including boating, jogging, volleyball, golfing, biking, fishing, and more. Residents can also walk to many small theaters, galleries, nightclubs, restaurants, and to shopping that's conveniently located in the neighborhood. Lakeview is bordered by Diversey Parkway to the south, Irving Park Road to the north, Ravenswood Avenue to the west, and Lake Michigan to the east. The population of Lakeview was 94,817 in 2000, making it the second largest of the Chicago community areas, following the Austin community.

There are many different types of housing in Lakeview. Along Lake Michigan, there are numerous high-rises with many one and two-bedroom condos, as well as Victorian greystones, large single-family houses and lavish mansions, some of which date back to the 1800s. Further west, there are rehabbed vintage condominiums, two and three-unit buildings, multi-unit condo buildings, lofts, and single-family homes.

In 2003, the average price of a single-family home in Lakeview was $774,187; prices ranged from $171,000 to $2,200,000. That same year, the average price of a two-bedroom condominium was $$324,414; prices ranged from $180,000 to $480,000. Home prices tend to be much higher along the lakefront (sometimes called East Lakeview) than in the western portion of the community.

There are over 600 shops in the Lakeview neighborhood, ranging from well-known retailers to independently-owned smaller shops. There are also a large number of restaurants: some eating spots bearing well-known names, others offering distinctive, one-of-a-kind fare. There are upscale restaurants where residents and visitors can have a delicious Sunday brunch; there are also lower-cost casual spots where a hamburger and a milkshake can be eaten.

There are numerous primary schools and high schools in Lakeview. Some public schools include Blaine Elementary School, Burley Elementary School, Greeley Elementary School and Hamilton Elementary School. Private schools include Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School, Mount Carmel Academy, Parkview Montessori School and Saint Andrews School. Many high school students living in the Lakeview community attend Lake View High School. (Note: the name of the high school is two words.)
