Lake Zurich Real Estate

Located roughly 37 miles northwest of downtown Chicago in Lake County, the town of Lake Zurich combines both small-town and city living. With a population of 18,373, it covers 6.75 square miles, and is bordered by North Barrington to the west, Deer Park to the south, Kildeer to the southeast and east, and Hawthorn Woods to the north. O'Hare International Airport is 30 miles away; the Tri-State and Edens Expressways are nearby. To reach downtown Chicago, commuters can board a train in nearby Barrington and arrive in the city in 75 minutes (45 minutes express).

Once a thriving resort community, Lake Zurich is now a suburban "bedroom" community comprised primarily of single-family homes. Housing styles include lake resort homes, older farmhouses, and colonial, ranch, and bi-level residences. Condominiums also dot the village. The median house value, according to the 2000 U.S. Census, is $225,100.

For recreation, residents can bowl a few games at an area bowling alley, see some flicks at the town's multi-screen movie theater, or fish in the village's 250-acre lake. Children can delight in the Kid's Kingdom Centennial Playground, which was built during Lake Zurich's 100th birthday in 1996. They can also choose from a variety of classes offered by the Lake Zurich Parks & Recreation Department, go to a folk festival or chili cook- off in Paulus Park, or enjoy an afternoon or evening of music by attending the summer outdoor Lake Zurich Promenade Entertainment Series in downtown Lake Zurich.

For shopping, villagers can visit downtown Lake Zurich or one of seven shopping centers located along Rand, which contain numerous well-known and locally-owned small shops and larger stores.

Students can attend any number of public and private primary and middle schools. Older students attend Lake Zurich High School. Of residents 25 years of age and older, 93.8 percent have graduated high school.
