Humboldt Park Real Estate

Bounded by Pulaski Road, California, Armitage, and Grand Avenues, the Chicago neighborhood of Humboldt Park centers around the 207-acre park named for the naturalist Alexander Humboldt. The park features a pond, an outdoor swimming pool, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, playgrounds, bike paths, picnic areas, and a fieldhouse with two gyms. In the wintertime, residents can go ice skating in the park. Other amenities include art and day camps, and a fitness center that offers a variety of classes. The Park's historic Bathhouse Pavilion exemplifies the Prairie School of architecture, and was designated a Chicago landmark in 1996.

The Humboldt Park neighborhood has approximately 60,000 residents and offers a wide range of housing choices. Though prices are still reasonable, they have gone up in recent years as there's been an effort to turn a stretch of Division Avenue into a tourist attraction celebrating Puerto Rican culture. In 2000, the average price of a single-family home in Humboldt Park was $85,000; today renovated single-family homes on large lots along Humboldt Boulevard have sold for as much as $325,000. Two-flats sell in the neighborhood of $125,000 to $150,000. Adjacent to the park, there are a number of large greystones. Other types of housing include older frame homes, bungalows, brick houses, Victorians, and Colonial-style residences.

In their leisure time, residents can visit downtown Chicago, which is a short distance away. They can also go to the Ukranian Institute of Modern Art, do some shopping and dine at some of the restaurants in the Paseo Borcua corridor on Division Street between Western and California Avenues, attend the Puerto Rican film festival in Humboldt Park, and hear some blues or jazz at one of the neighborhood lounges.

There are several public elementary schools in the community including Brian Piccolo, Ronald E. McNair, West Park Academy, and Nobel Elementary. Public high schools include Clemente, Orr and Westinghouse.
