Homer Glen Real Estate

Located 11 miles southwest of downtown Chicago in Will County, the village of Homer Glen is a relatively new community. It covers an area of 20 square miles, was incorporated in April, 2001, and has 24,083 residents. Homer Glen's borders include 131st Street to the north, 183rd Street to the south, Will-Cook Road to the east, and Gouger Road on the west. Neighboring towns include Lemont, Orland Park, New Lenox and Lockport.

The town is a blend of small farms and spacious developments on large lots, and a sizeable number of residents have horses on their property. The town's three major creeks are home to many different sorts of wildlife such as beavers, coyotes, deer, and woodchucks; indeed, protecting the environment is important to the village, as is responsible commercial development that protects the quality of life by preventing road congestion, flooding, school overcrowding and other problems. The village's mission statement reads as follows:

"The Village of Homer Glen is committed to preserving, protecting, and enhancing our community's quality of life through responsible residential and economic development while utilizing sound fiscal management. We will strive to maintain open space, preserve our unique rural character, and safeguard our natural resources. The Village encourages community involvement in order to maintain and cultivate a balance of family, agriculture, business, environment, and cultural diversity for present and future generations."

For recreation, residents can take advantage of the seven parks that dot the community, and spend some time at the two village's beautiful forest preserves: Messenger Woods Nature Preserve, one of the county's oldest, and Spring Greenway, which offers horseback riding and hiking trails. They can also visit the Homer Township Public Library on 151st Street, whose service area includes Homer Glen, unincorporated Homer Township, part of Lockport, and part of New Lenox.

The town's volunteer athletic associations also provide plenty of recreational opportunities including football, cheerleading, baseball, softball, and soccer activities, and a new, privately-owned roller rink offers an additional form of recreation.

The village has a number of top-rated public and private schools. Homer Glen is served by three excellent grade school districts, which feed into Lockport Township High School.

In terms of housing, Homer Glen housing is diverse, with everything from condominiums and townhouses, to modest ranch-style single-family homes to large Georgian estate properties. Housing construction is on the rise, as carefully reviewed subdivisions are approved. The cost of housing ranges from moderate to very expensive.
