Hampshire Real Estate

Hampshire is a small, quiet community with a population of 3000. The community is located 60 miles from Chicago in Northeastern Kane County. It is made up of rolling hills, scattered farms and developing communities to house a growing residential and business community. Access to Interstate 90 make it a prime location for businesses to service Chicago, Rockford and beyond. Hampshire has over 125 years of history that it plans to preserve and remember while forging into the future.

Hampshire was known for its natural beauty in its early day. Before the first settlers arrived the entire site was open woodland with no prairie, fertile soil and a generous supply of fresh water. The land was first open to public sale in 1839. Hampshire became a noted camping place for teamsters, settlers, and prospectors arriving in the area. The village was platted by Oct. 22, 1874 by Andrew Willing and Ceylon A. Fasset and incorporated in 1876.

Hampshire has benefited from a great deal of change over the past decade. The park district now offers a variety of options: a shooting complex, snowmobiling, baseball fields, basketball courts, equestrian trials, golf courses, conservation areas, soccer fields, streams, ponds, skiing, health fitness, trials, football fields and more. The Hampshire Chamber of Commerce has set an agenda to garner new business to the area. Businesses in the area run the range from salons, restaurants, shopping malls, manufacturers, technology based firms, retailers, whole sale traders, and hotels. The annexation of a 30 mile corridor from its former outskirts north to I-90 interchange at U.S. Route 20 created a bi-polar community with the city's economic development at the interchange. Farmland adjacent to the community has been converted to residential developments.

Hampshire offers a much greater choice of single family dwellings. Older more rustic homes typify areas while subdivisions ripe with custom and semi-custom homes have greatly changed the landscape of Hampshire. A minimum size lot in Hampshire was about a quarter acre. Three subdivisions broke ground in late 1998 with dimensions of 1600 to 3000 sq. ft. and planned units of duplexes and town homes had already broken ground in the early 1990s. Senior citizens, first time buyers and re-locaters moved to Hampshire to get as much for their housing dollars as they could.Hampshire's fine schools now reflect the needs of its diverse, growing community. There are two public elementary schools and one public and one parochial high school.
