Grayslake Real Estate

Located approximately 44 miles north of downtown Chicago and midway between Chicago and Milwaukee, the Lake County community of Grayslake features a charming downtown area, a variety of housing styles and excellent access to major roads including the Tri-State Tollway, which is less than five miles away.

Grayslake is situated 40 minutes away from O'Hare International Airport and 40 minutes from Mitchell Field in Milwaukee. The Metra commuter line provides daily train service into Union Station in Chicago. As of 2003, the population of Grayslake was 20,330, representing a 10 percent increase from the 2000 U.S. Census total of 18,506 residents, and a 175 percent increase from the 1990 figure of 7,388 residents.

For shopping, villagers can head on out to the historic downtown business district's numerous shops. The Gurnee Mills outlet mall and other shopping centers are just minutes away. There are also several new commercial developments that are currently under development or recently completed: these include the 70-acre Center Street Square and the Mapleview Shopping complex, which includes a Jewel/Osco.

For fun, residents can visit the Grayslake Aquatic Center, located on Library Lane near the Grayslake Public Library, or bike along the village bike path system. They can also spend some time at the Grayslake Community Garden, where they can maintain their own garden plot. The 12,000-square-foot Grayslake Skate Park, also adjacent to the public library, provides another leisure-time option, as does a public beach on Gray's Lake, Six Flags Great America Amusement Park in Gurnee, and the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake.

In terms of housing, sixteen different developments have been approved by the village within the past 10 years; these developments offer housing in all price ranges from starter homes to large residences. The older sections of Grayslake feature a wide range of housing styles including Victorian homes, bungalows, frame houses, and ranches. The median cost of a single-family home is $192,900 (2000).
