Glenview Heights Real Estate

Located 20 miles north of downtown Chicago, the village of Glenview contains a wide range of housing stock, excellent schools and a variety of recreational opportunities. It is situated between the Tri-State Tollway and the Edens Expressway. To travel into Chicago's Loop, commuters can board a train at the Glenview Metra station; the ride takes about 35 minutes. Glenview is home to about 44,655 residents.

Glenview's most revolutionary project to-date has been the construction of The Glen, a 1,121-acre mixed use project which is being built on the former site of the Glenview Naval Air Station in the downtown area. Approved in 1999, the entire complex consisting of shops, entertainment facilities, a post office, approximately 1,500 new residences, business offices, and a Metra station, is expected to be completed by 2010. Currently in use is the 140-acre Gallery Park, which features the 45-acre Lake Glenview, six miles of walking and biking trails, an amphitheater, boardwalk, playgrounds, gardens, tennis courts and other amenities.

Also already completed is a good portion of the Glen Town Center, which consists of upscale restaurants and stores such as Jos. A. Bank, Ann Taylor Loft, Von Maur and other fashionable shops. Adjacent to The Glen are two golf courses; other recreational opportunities in Glenview include tennis and basketball courts, a nature preserve, playgrounds, softball fields, and numerous programs and classes offered by the Glenview Park District.

For shopping, villagers can also visit a number of strip malls in Glenview including Plaza del Prado, Carrilon Square and Talisman Village, and Heatherfield shopping center, which is anchored by a Jewel-Osco and a Target.

Current housing in Glenview consists of a wide range of architectural styles and prices; some single-family homes cost several million dollars. Townhouses, condominiums and apartments are plentiful. In August, 2006, a four-bedroom, three-bath single-family home was listed for $655,000; a five-bedroom, 3.1-bath single-family residence was selling for $810,000.
