Elmwood Park Real Estate

Nicknamed the "Village with Pride," the town of Elmwood Park is known for its excellent library, many restaurant and shopping opportunities, and a variety of recreational facilities. Located 12 miles west of downtown Chicago and covering 1.9 square miles, Elmwood Park was incorporated in 1914. Its current population is approximately 25,000.

The housing stock is comprised of a mixture of brick bungalows on the streets north of Grand Avenue, and higher-priced split-levels, Cape Cods and Georgians on the south side of the village. There are also some condominium units scattered throughout the suburb. Some residents remodel their homes or tear down older homes to build new ones.

Some villagers do their shopping along Conti Parkway, otherwise known as the "Circle," which is a circular street on the north side of town where the library, police station and recreation center are also located. Grand Avenue is another popular shopping district, as is North Avenue on the south side of town, and it contains small shops and restaurants featuring a variety of cuisines.

In their leisure time, residents can take advantage of a modern library that is located along Conti Parkway, enroll in some of the numerous activities offered by the village's recreation department, have some fun at Elmwood Park's outdoor aquatics park, which features a pool and water slides, travel a short distance to go on the rides at Kiddieland amusement park, and take some classes at Triton Junior College in nearby River Grove. They can also eat a variety of foods at the popular "Taste of Elmwood Park," which is held each summer.

For education, there are three public primary/middle schools, one private primary school, and one public high school, Elmwood Park High School, which has 936 students. Home of the "Tigers," Elmwood Park High School has 955 students. Approximately 80 percent of seniors continue their educations beyond high school.
