Some of the major shopping areas feature specialty shops, supermarkets, restaurants, drug and hardware stores, and other shops. Woodfield Mall, the world's largest enclosed retail shopping center in Schaumburg, is about a 15-mile drive from Elk Grove Village.
There is an assortment of housing in Elk Grove Village including single-family and multi-family homes in various styles, sizes and price ranges. There are also contemporary and new-construction subdivisions, custom-home developments, traditional neighborhoods, golf-course communities, and mixed-use complexes. There are 12 elementary, junior high and high schools in Elk Grove Village and one junior college. Students living east of Route 53 are within School District #59 and attend Elk Grove High School. Students living west of Route 53 are within School District #54 and attend James B. Conant High School. Residents are served by a number of local colleges and universities including DePaul University, Northern Illinois University, Northwestern University, Roosevelt University, University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, and others. Nearby Harper College offers two-year technical degrees and programs.
