Cicero Real Estate

One of the oldest and largest municipalities in Illinois and named after the great Roman statesman, Marcus Tullius Cicero, the suburb of Cicero sits only 12 miles west of Chicago's downtown area, 10 minutes away from Midway Airport, and 25 minutes from O'Hare International Airport. More than 85,000 people make their home in Cicero.

Primarily a blue-collar suburb, the village is comprised of eight neighborhoods: Boulevard Manor, Clyde, Drexel, Grant Works, Hawthorne, Morton Park, Parkholme, and Warren Park. There are many older large, brick bungalows within the village, and a limited number of newly-constructed homes for sale. Many residents, in fact, renovate or add on to their current homes. Cicero offers several federally funded housing rehabilitation programs to eligible homeowners that provide homeowners with low-interest loans and grants. The median cost of a single-family home in Cicero has risen in recent years, and now sits at $181,274.

Cicero houses Morton College, the second oldest community college in Illinois. Founded in 1924, the college serves the needs of the community by offering an affordable, high-quality education. Its programs emphasize preparation for further post-secondary education, and for job entry and career advancement. It offers 15 two-year programs that lead to an associate's degree in applied science, and 17 one-year certificate programs.

For younger students, Cicero offers an excellent education. Its developmental preschool program offered by the Children's Center of Cicero-Berwyn teaches children basic problem-solving skills, language skills and nutrition. Elementary school students can attend one of 15 schools within Berwyn's District 99, and high school students go to Morton East High School. Founded in 1894, it offers more than 260 courses including advanced placement and honors classes.

For recreation, Cicero residents can partake of the many activities offered by the Clyde and Hawthorne Park Districts. Both park districts offer year-round activities; residents may sign up for camps, picnics, dances and various contests, and team activities in such sports as basketball, volleyball, softball, bowling and floor hockey are also offered. The Clyde Park District encompasses 14 sites with 11 playgrounds, three large swimming pools, five wading pools, five community centers, six baseball fields, two fields used for football and soccer, four spray pools, nine tennis courts, and basketball courts. The Cicero Recreation Center also offers a variety of activities including kickboxing.

Cicero also boasts two racetracks: Sportsman's Park and Hawthorne Racetrack. The village's newest attraction is the Chicago Motor Speedway, featuring well-known drivers and CART racing. All of these events bring in thousands of people to the town of Cicero each year.
