Carol Stream Real Estate

Named after the 14-year-old daughter of local developer Jay Stream, who sought to establish a model community on a number of farmland acres north of Wheaton, the village of Carol Stream is the only Illinois community named after a living person. Incorporated in 1959, the DuPage County community has more than 43,000 residents, covers 10 square miles, and is situated 26 miles west of downtown Chicago. Carol Stream boasts nearly 1,000 businesses and industries, which helps to keep taxes low. The east and southeastern sections of the suburb contain Carol Stream's economic base, while the central and western portions of the village are comprised mainly of residential housing totaling approximately 15,000 dwelling units. According to 2000 statistics, the median home value was $171,800.

The village has six major roads that run through the town. The most important of these is North Avenue, which runs fairly close to the center of Carol Stream and serves much of the industrial areas. Army Trail Road and Geneva Road are the other major east-west roads. Other major thoroughfares include Gary Avenue, a north-south road that runs to the commercial center of Bloomingdale and the Stratford Square Mall, County Farm Road, which also serves as a major route for residents, and Schmale Road that serves a small commercial area on the southeastern side of Carol Stream.

The village provides its residents with modern schools and a large park district with state-of-the-art facilities. Younger students attend more than one-half dozen elementary and middle schools. High school-aged students attend Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream, the third largest high school district in Illinois. There are also more than 14 colleges and universities in DuPage County that serve Carol Stream residents.

The Carol Stream Park District contains 36 parks and playgrounds ranging from one-fourth of an acre to 74 acres. Modern facilities include an indoor pool, an outdoor water park, two recreation centers, a skate park, two gymnasiums, and a mini-golf course. There's also Kids World, a 16,000-square foot complex for kids that is accessible to physically challenged children. Children and adults can also play in one of the suburb's many sports leagues including football, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball and swimming.
