Burr Ridge Real Estate

Burr Ridge was once home to "corn cows, and convicts." It sits 19 miles south west of Chicago and is a far cry from the empty field where it began. The original square mile was called Hinsdale Countryside Estates by developer Robert Bartlett, and later became the Village of Harvester in 1956, a by product of International Harvester's "adjacent" experimental farm in Burr Ridge.

The area was distinguishable by a bunch of burr oaks on a ridge near County Line and Plainfield Roads. Early settlers included Enos Barton, one of Western Electric's original founders, who raised Brown Swiss cattle on his 1100-acre Sedgley Farm. Burridge Butler, owned acreage north of Plainfield Rd. as well as a good portion of WLS. Luther Rogers also came to Burr Ridge to develop his Valley View property as a "private hunting preserve."

Today, Burr Ridge's economic and residential development is still a result from Chicago's spill over. It's conveniently located off Interstate 55 and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) that makes itself home to a diverse community beyond quiet tree lined streets and spacious living spaces. Current population exceeds 10,000 and residents have done their best to preserve the calm environment of the suburb despite the continued growth of its business community. Prime vacant property is available for construction in Burr Ridge, still a very favorable location because of very low municipal tax rates.

The business environment of Burr Ridge is made up of 400 corporations, retailers and manufacturers whose numbers are growing. Municipal leaders make sure the business environment doesn't detract from the serenity of residential construction. A large commercial tax base lowers residential taxes. Shopping malls and office space have been blended into the natural setting that account for a large part of the growth. County Line Square Shopping Center in Burr Ridge is only one of many in the area with transportation connecting to outlying areas and Chicago. Nonophase Technologies Corporation and Bank Financial are large employers in Burr Ridge. The majority of the employment in the village is found in education, health, and social sciences( 25.7%) with professional scientific, management, administrative and waste management services coming in second at 13.5%.

Burr Ridge is a close car commute or convenient bus ride to Chicago or any lodging options for business travelers. All airports in Chicago, O' Hare or Oakbrook are close by. Burr Ridge Park District has 11 active and passive districts, a public pool, recreation classes and classes that cater to children of all ages. Walker Park and Lake Carriage Way are part of the district that offers recreation programs, trips and special events for all groups. Burr Ridge also offers a variety of restaurants: Italian, steak houses, French, a diner, and a sausage company restaurant.

Homes in Burr Ridge run the gamut from large estate-type properties with scenic landscapes to smaller starter homes. Quiet, picturesque subdivisions characterize Burr Ridge as "a very special place." The Burr Ridge community is filled with many fine schools. Most children attend one of four Elementary Districts: Gower #62, Hinsdale #181, Pleasant Dale #107, and Burr Ridge #180. There are three parochial elementary schools, three public high schools and four parochial high schools within a twelve mile radius of the city.
