An upscale community of 10,211, Barrington is located approximately 35 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and occupies part of both Cook and Lake Counties. Once the home of the tribes of Pottawatomi and Mascouten Indians, it features an abundant wildlife population and several nature preserves amidst a beautiful rustic setting.

The town offers residents a large number of leisure activities from which to choose. Residents can become involved in more than a half a dozen garden clubs, select from a wide array of activities offered by the Barrington Park District, visit any number of art galleries, and choose from a wide assortment of dining options: everything from Chinese and Japanese cuisine to pizza and gyros. Barrington's thriving downtown shopping district has a small-town feel, and is a mix of smaller specialty shops and major retailers.

The town's Community Unit School District 220 serves students from early childhood through grade 12. It is home to eight elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and one early childhood center. The commitment to education and outstanding facilities is paramount. Since 1998, the school district has built four new elementary schools, completely renovated four other elementary schools, added on to one middle school, and completed major renovations and additions to Barrington High School. The percentage of high school and college graduates in Barrington is high. Barrington High School boasts a graduation rate of 97 percent, and 96 percent of the class continues on to higher education.
