Addison Real Estate

Encompassing 12 square miles and located 20 miles west of downtown Chicago in DuPage County, Addison is home to the fourth largest industrial park in Illinois. Founded in 1884 and named after 18th century writer Joseph Addison, the village's website states, "Addison is one of the best kept secrets in DuPage County and has continued to grow into one of the more prominent communities in the area. It offers a one-of-a-kind living environment, and many third and fourth generation residents are prevalent within the community."

According to 2000 U.S. Census figures, the population of Addison is approximately 36,000. Because of a thriving commercial and industrial tax base, property taxes are lower than many other DuPage County communities. In addition, Addison strives to keep other costs including water, utility taxes and vehicle stickers low or non-existent.

The village offers residents a variety of Park District programs, excellent athletic and other leisure programs for its youth, a high-tech public library, a highly rated fire district, an award-winning police department, special events for senior citizens, and three golf courses.

Addison's first school house was built in 1880. Today, the village has seven public elementary schools, a junior high school and two high schools: Addison Trail High School and Driscoll Catholic High School. Lutherbrook Education Center is also located in Addison, as are three parochial elementary schools. In addition, a branch of the College of DuPage (COD) is located in the village, as well as the Technology Center of DuPage and DeVry University.

For entertainment, residents can go to Dave and Buster's to grab a bite to eat and play a game of pool, or visit the Marcus Cinema and IMAX Theatre, one of the most state-of-the-art multiplexes in the Chicagoland area.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the average home price is $277,000. Housing ranges from highly affordable starter homes to more expensive properties. There are homes to fit any size budget and any size family
